Our Pastor

 

Reverend Matthew Rasmussen was installed as Pastor of Community Lutheran Church in August of 2013.  His duties in service to God's people include conducting the worship services, administering the sacraments of the Lord (Baptism and the Lord's Supper), teaching the Word of God, and pastoral care of the sick and suffering.  Prior to his arrival in Vermont, Rev. Rasmussen served at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hazleton, Pennsylvania (2010-2013).

 

In preparation for the ministry, Pastor Rasmussen attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he received his Master of Divinity degree.  He spent his second year of study in Cambridge, England at Westfield House (seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Of England), taking courses from the Divinity School of Cambridge University.  He returned to Fort Wayne to complete the course work for his MDiv and remained an additional year to take course work toward a Master of Sacred Theology (STM).  Prior to entering the seminary, Pastor Rasmussen received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University.



 


 

Born and baptized into the Christian faith to Don and Kathy Rasmussen, Pastor Matthew Rasmussen was the first of four children. He and his three younger sisters, Kristy, Cari, and Amanda, had the joys of growing up on a drairy farm in Clio, Michigan.



 

He married his high school sweetheart, Adrienne, and were married while attending Michigan State University. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science.

 



In 2006, Pastor Rasmussen was accepted to Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Completing his field work at Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, he spend his second year of study overseas with Westfield House, seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England, and the Divinity School of Cambridge University in Cambridge England. He returned to Fort Wayne afterword to complete the coursework for the Master of Sacred Theology. He completed his vicarage assignment at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hazleton, where he was later called, ordained, and installed as Pastor in 2011. Now having received and accepted a call to Community Lutheran Church in Burlington, he will be Installed as our Pastor on August 25th, 2013.
